Countrywide Interrogations of Young Front Activists Continue
Today an investigator of Minsk city prosecutor’s office Siarhei Hrakhouski will interrogate the activists of the Young Front Barys Haretski and Zmitser Khvedaruk. At 10 p.m. on 13 March KGB agents searched Haretski’s apartment.
We should remind that Zmitser Khvedaruk and Aleh Korban were detained on 4 February and kept for three days in a KGB isolator. Then they were declared suspects under article 193.1 of the Criminal Code, ‘activity on behalf of unregistered organization’. In March two more activists, Aliaksei Ianusheuski, Barys Haretski and Anastasiia Palazhanka, were found suspects in the case as well.
Aliaksei Ianusheuski thinks that the countrywide interrogations are aimed at intimidation not of Young Front activists, but of the youth who are hesitant about participation in street protest actions in spring.
In the regions Young Front members and activists of other unregistered youth organizations are interrogated by KGB investigators. In Babruisk they will interrogate Maksim Buinitski and Valery Matskevich.
In Vitsebsk KGB interrogated Alena Bahdanava, Iuliia Matusevich and Krystsina Mikhailava.
A human rights activist Valery Shchukin managed to get to two such interrogations. He said that when Andrei Danileuski was interrogated at Vitsebsk regional KGB office, he was asked only two questions: whether he knew about the Young Front and had any relation to its activity.
A pupil of Vitsebsk lyceum #1 Alena Bahdanava was called to the office of the head of curriculum department. A KGB investigator waited for her there. She asked her about the amount of the member fees in the Young Frontё whether she knew any leaders or activists and why her telephone calls were registered as contacts with activists of the organization.
KGB investigators also came to Vitsebsk gymnasium #1 to interrogate a pupil of the 11th grade Uladzislau Chernik. They also asked whether he had any relation to the Young Front. At 2 p.m. Orsha KGB office started the interrogation of Ihar Kazmiarchak.
In Homel a former member of the Young Front, now activist of the BPF Party Eduard Zeliankou was interrogated by a KGB office for 4 hours.
Mahiliou KGB office interrogated Maksim Azarau, Tatsiana Bulanava and Rastsislau Pankratau. The latter was under age and was interrogated in presence of his mother, Anzhela Pankratava. According to her, a KGB investigator asked her son about 40 questions concerning the activity of the Young Front.
Hrodna KGB office interrogated Volha Halubets, Krystsina Marhuk, Volha Smalianchuk and Iauheniia Shastserykova. The latter two were interrogated in their educational establishments. Volha Halubets was taken away from hospital – she came to a cardiologist. Krystsina Marchuk was interrogated in a dean’s office of her high school.
