Novy Chas Issued again
According to RFE/RL
The issue of a non-state weekly Novy chas founded by Frantsysk Skaryna Belarusian Language Society was resumed after a year’s break.
Novy chas was registered on 25 March 2002. Till 2006 45 numbers were issued. Last year BLS lost the publisher rights as a result of legislation amendments and had to establish for it a special economic unit.
The solution of this problem took more than a year. Now the chair of Minsk BLS organization, chief editor of the weekly Alena Anisim hopes the newspaper will be issued weekly. ‘Novy chas won’t stick to some special field of the country’s public life, but will rather attempt to cover all important events’, pointed the editor. ‘All in all, we don’t have many independent Belarusian-language editions that could simply write about the life in Belarus and feel its pulse’.
At present the weekly has no subscription. The state monopolist Belsaiuzdruk refused to sell it in the kiosks. Now the newspaper can be bought from street vendors. Soon the weekly will also restart its internet version.
