Attempted Break-in at UCP Office in Homel
There was an attempted break-in at the United Civic Party regional office in Homel in the early hours of January 18, Uladzimir Katsora, deputy head of the organization, told BelaPAN.
The incident happened shortly after the midnight when an UCP activist, a night security guard at the office based in a private house, left it to see out the UCP`s last visitors. He came back two hours later to see broken keys inside the two locks.
Mr. Katsora suggested that the authorities could have been behind the attempted break-in, which he noted could have been aimed at disrupting a coming meeting of opposition leaders and local activists.
The meeting took place on Sunday afternoon as scheduled. The leaders of UCP, the Belarusian Popular Front and the Belarusian Party of Communists met with Homel activists. UCP members managed to get the broken keys out and open the door.
