26 Activists of Belarusian Student Association Detained by Police
On 10 February an informal meeting of members of Belarusian Student Association (officially liquidated in 2003) took place not far from Minsk. About 30 persons gathered in a house in the village of Luhavaia Slabada. Soon the house was assaulted by riot squad police and people in mufti. They explained their actions with anonymous information about a mine in the house. According to the information of RFE/RL at first the BSA members were kept in one room and said that they weren’t detained. After putting down their surnames the policemen drove them to Minsk district police department. There they took written explanations, made video shots and took finger-prints from all detainees and then released them without composing any violation reports.
We should remind that on 4 February 27 members of Young Front were detained in a private flat as well. Two Young Front activists, Zmitser Khvedaruk and Aleh Korban, were kept in the investigative isolator of KGB for three days and then were released under written undertakings not to leave Minsk. At present they have the status of suspects in a criminal case brought under article 193.1, activity on behalf of unregistered organization.
