BPF Member Valiantsina Sviatskaia Sues Iury Sivakou

Today a member of the council of the Belarusian People’s Front party Valiantsina Sviatskaia has received summons from the court of Frunzenski borough of Minsk. On 5 September 2006 she sent a statement to the Prosecutor’s office of Belarus by post and filed a claim for defense her honor and dignity to Frunzenski court of Minsk against General Iury Sivakou and the Association of special forces’ veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Honar (Honor) headed by him.
Mrs.Sviatskaia has stated that in the article About honor by Iury Sivakou published in the magazine Spetsnaz (SWAT), was a denigration of her honor and dignity. Mrs Sviatskaia demands 60 million rubles as compensation of moral damages.
In the article General Sivakou offered readers of the Spetsnaz magazine to get acquainted with the code of officer’s honor written by Adolph Hitler. The quotes from the code took about a page. General Sivakou considered that material to be interesting for many people. As he said, ‘though the person is notorious, it is worth thinking over many principles declared by him’.
The former Interior Minister of Belarus Iury Sivakou is suspected by the world community in implication in abductions and assassinations of Belarusian opposition leaders. The trial is to take place on 21 February at 9.30 a.m. in the court of Frunzenski borough of Minsk.
