Pershamaiski court is hearing an appeal of Vasil Siliverst, who has already held 3 hunger-strikes, is trying to prove that he became disabled because of Chernobyl. The position of the state is represented by an expert of the national inter-institutional expert board.

Vasil Siliverst was in the army, when Chernobyl disaster occurred. For several months he worked in the 30-kilometers area from the nuclear power plant. He lived in tents together with other liquidators. He believes that his diseases – cardiac infarction and cataract – are a consequence of influence of radiation.

The disabled receive a pension of about 75 USD. If the liquidator proves that he lost working capacity because he was one of liquidators of the consequences of Chernobyl disaster, the size of his pension will increase by 5 times. In 2005 and 2006 Vasil Siliverst held 3 hunger-strikes demanding from the officials to recognize the fact that his diseases were caused by radiation when he liquidated the consequences of Chernobyl disaster.

The next court session will take place next week.
