Kalinkavichy Road Police Detain Car with Estonian National TV Journalists and UCP Activists
According to UCP activist Alesia Simanenka, the TV journalists came to Belarus in order to shoot a report about the local elections. However, in Kalinkavichy the road police stopped the car of the journalists accompanied by Belarusian activists. Giving no reasons for stopping the car, the police officers checked the documents of all people in the car. They also demanded to open the trunk. They demonstrated a special interest to the back pack which belonged to one of the Estonian journalists. After the check-up of the luggage and documents the police released everybody.
Simanenka thinks the road police stopped the car because they noticed one of the journalists making a video of the town through the car window. Besides that, such actions of the road police can be explained by the election paranoia – the authorities are afraid of absolutely everything, reports Radio Racyja.
