On 12 January the member of the United Civil Party Andrei Dzmitryieu was kidnapped by people in mufti. Later the leader of the party Anatol Liabedzka occasionally saw Mr. Dzmitryieu at Minsk Partyzanski borough police department. The detainee spent the week-end in the detention center in Akrestsin Street.

On Monday 15 January the judge of Minsk Partyzanski borough court Mikalai Trubnikau sentenced Andrei Dzmitryieu to three days of jail for alleged violation of article 156 of the Administrative Code. In the morning Anatol Liabedzka came to the court and asked when the trial would be conducted. The judge answered that the trial would start after reception of citizens. Soon Liabedzka found that the judge lied – and had already read the verdict by the time of inquiry. A member of the Estonian Parliament came to the court together with Liabedzka for getting acquainted with the judicial system of Belarus.

Mr. Dzmitryieu will be released from jail today, as he spent 2 days in jail before the trial.
