Mahiliou: Aliaksandr Karaliou Withdraws from Election

A well-known activist of independent trade unions and human rights activist Aliaksandr Karaliou filed with Mahiliou city election commission and official note about his withdrawal from the election. Mr. Karaliou was nominated as a candidate by collection of signatures. He and his initiative group collected much more signatures than needed and actively participated in the agitation campaign.

In his note Mr. Karaliou wrote: ‘In the conditions when election commissions don’t include any representatives of public organizations or at least citizens who are independent from the present authorities participation in elections is senseless’.

We should note that in Mahiliou region the majority of candidates of the united democratic forces knew from the very beginning that their ultimate aim is direct contact with the electorate and usage of a legal possibility for wide information of wide social circles about their position and the situation of the country.
