A memorial sign to the famous Belarusian writer Vasil Bykau has been created on the initiative of Anatol Bely, a local core student, chair of Minsk city cultural-educational club Spadchyna.

In his interview with BelaPAN A.Bely stated said that the memorial sign is a 2,5 meter high granite stone with a bas-relief of Vasil Bykau, carved by a Belarusian sculptor Uladzimire Melekhau. Under the relief is a rectangular table ‘Vasil Bykau’. At present the sign is stored in the yard of the Art museum in Staryia Darohi (Minsk region).

Mr. Bely proposed to the rector of the Belarusian State University Vasil Strazhau to install the memorial sign in the yard of the philological faculty in Marx Street in Minsk. ‘However, I received a refusal with the explanation that a long-term restoration of the building of philological faculty is planed. In this situation I asked the administration of the Union of Belarusian Writers to ask the authorities for permission to install the memorial sign to the writer in his native town, Ushachy (Vitsebsk region) or in Hrodna, where he worked and lived for a long time,’ said A.Bely.
