Iryna Kazulina, wife of the former Belarus’ presidential candidate, political prisoner Aliaksandr Kazulin, is grateful to the American representative for an attempt to raise the Belarusian problem in the UN Security Council. ‘I am thankful to the US representative to bring up the problems of human rights in Belarus and Aliaksandr Kazulin’s hunger strike,’ Iryna Kazulina said. ‘Now I really see we have achieved something. There were lots of skeptics who said that it is impossible to raise Belarusian problem in the UN Security Council, and nobody would do that… However this problem was raised. It means that Alyaksandr’s torturing himself by hunger hasn’t been in vain.’
On 12 December during closed-door talks on situation in the Ivory Coast and Lebanon a senior U.S. diplomat William Brencick brought up Belarusian issue in the UN Security Council. He noted that Belarusian government violates fundamental rights and freedoms.
Iryna Kazulina hopes that the world community, and primarily the EU, would continue to demand her husband’s release.
I.Kazulina said that she called the colony today to find out about his health. ‘I was said everything is going on as it should be. Aliaksandr submitted a blood test, and the test is good,’ she said.
On 15 December a meeting of Aliaksandr Kazulin with his lawyer Ihar Rynkevich is to take place.
