The leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Aliaksandr Milinkevich refused the financial part of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, which is Euro 50.000. At a press-conference after receiving the prize Milinkevich stated that the European parliament can independently give the money to support repressed Belarusians.
The Sakharov prize for Freedom of Thought has been received by the leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Aliaksandr Milinkevich on 12 December. He was awarded the prize at a session of the European parliament in Strasbourg.
