Opposition Communists Lose Case
Centralny court of Minsk did not satisfy the suit of the Communists’ party. According to RFE/RL, the judge did not explain the decision she had made. She only mentioned the numbers of articles of the Civic Code, which did not let her satisfy the suit.
The opposition Party of Communists of Belarus filed a suit against Tatsiana Holubeva, leader of the pro-governmental Communist Party of Belarus and its newspaper “Communist of Belarus”.
In July 2006 the newspaper published extracts from Tatsiana Holubeva’s speech during the so-called “merge convention” of communist parties. She stated that many opposition communists joined the CPB. The PCB leadership demanded to refute the lie.
Siarhei Vazniak, member of PCB Central Committee, says the leadership is satisfied with the court hearing despite the result. According to Vaznia, the court proceedings helped to reach 2 goals: the leaders of pro-governmental communists stopped talking about the merge of the parties; and the PCB leadership received forged minutes for nomination of delegates to the so-called merge convention.
