On 3 November detained in the center of Minsk the police detained one of the publishers of the independent newspaper Nash Mahiliou Andrei Dzvihun with a pack of newspapers. Two men in mufti presented themselves as policemen and stated that Mr. Dzvihun reminds of a wanted robber. He was taken to a police department for identification. At the police department the policeman Iury Kirylovich drew up a report of confiscation of the printed materials. As said by Mr. Dzvihun, policemen were extremely rude. They didn’t allow him to inform his relatives about the detention and demanded to switch off the phone. After two hours under arrest Andrei Dzvihun was released.
We should remind that the first number of the non-state newspaper Nash Mahiliou was issued on 30 October 2006. The editors intend to issue the newspaper as an unregistered biweekly and then file documents for the state registration after which they can issue it as a weekly.
