Former candidate to the post of the President Alexander Kazulin who serves his term in Vitebsk jail # 3, was hospitalized to medical ward, said Piotr Miklashevich, Prosecutor General.

We have informed earlier, that Alexander Kazulin went on hunger strike protesting against “unlawfulness in the country”. By the hunger strike he also tries to draw the attention of the UN Security Council to the situation in Belarus. Former Member of Parliament, political prisoner Siarhei Skrabets has joined Kazulin’s hunger strike.

Miklashevich told the journalists, “Kazulin receives good medical care in the medical ward”.

The Prosecutor General said, Vitebsk Prosecutor’s office examined the situation in Vitebsk jail and found out that Kazulin had started the hunger-strike on October 20. Kazulin did not file any complaints to the prison administration, he kept to the daily routine and did not violate the regime. According to the Prosecutor General, medical staff monitored the state of Kazulin’s health from the very first day of the hunger-strike.

Yesterday, Kazulin’s lawyer was not allowed to visit him. Earlier the jail administration reported that Kazulin was “in good spirits and cheerful”. Human rights defenders do not exclude that the jail administration might keep the real state of Kazulin’s health in secret.
