Member of Independent Trade Union Insists on Rehiring and Backpay

Homel regional court considers Siarhei Shvedau’s suit for the second time. Siarhei Shvedau, member of Independent Trade Union, was fired in May for alleged failure to issue tickets to 3 passengers in his bus.
RFE/RL reports, the people mentioned in the inspectors’ report testified in court that they had not traveled by that bus. One of the inspectors stated that on the day of the report she worked in a different field. The court ordered a graphology test of inspectors’ signatures.

During the preliminary hearing the judge proposed an amicable agreement for the parties. Uladzimir Khadakouski, director of the bus company, suggested the driver should apply for a job and promised to hire him back.
At present court hearing Siarhei Shvedau insists on backpay for the days of forced truancy.
