“They Won’t Stop Us!” Another Solidarity Action in Salihorsk
The Solidarity March which was supposed to take place in the “Minors’ City” on October 16 was dispersed by police. Five Young Front activists were detained.
Salihorsk youth declares that “the main purpose of severe detentions was the desire to frighten young people and to hide the truth about political prisoners and the disappeared people. However, we are not going to keep silence! They won’t stop us with arrests and interrogations. Arrests and threats rebounds on them – unprecedented pressure makes us stronger. We feel the necessity to demonstrate solidarity with our friends, who have been thrown to jails by the regime – Zmitser Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, and Paval Seviarynets. In difficult conditions and isolation it is very important to get support, it becomes the power which makes them stronger and brings optimism.
They won’t stop us. We demonstrate our intention to continue actions in support of political prisoners by yesterday’s Chain of Concerned People. On October 17 two dozen young people came to the Central Square of Salihorsk and formed a chain holding candles and portraits of the political prisoners. The majority of the young people also participated in the dispersed action on October 16. The detained Young Front members also joined the Chain“.
“The situation in our country forced me to come to the Square today. In these conditions my consciousness doesn’t let me stay at home. We have to demonstrate that we are against illegal arrests. If we do not express our opinion openly soon the authorities might repress us all. Mutual aid and Solidarity are the words which should be more than just words in Belarus. 15 minutes on the square are not the same as 2 years in prison!” – one of the action participants told the press-service of Salihorsk Young Front.
