The inspector on combating smuggling of Hrodna regional customs office F.Paulovich has sent a summons to Aleh Volchak, a human rights activist and the chair of the juridical service of Aliaksandr Kazulin.

The matter is that on 2 September at the crossing point Bruzgi-Kuznica the Belarusian customs officers confiscated from Mr Volchak a copy of the book Chronicle of State Villainy (dedicated to the disappearance of the former internal affairs minister Iury Zakharanka) and two copies of the book Election of President of the Republic of Belarus in 2006. Facts and Commentaries’. Mr Volchak said to RFE/RL that he didn’t come to the interrogation because the customs services have no right to conduct preliminary investigation and the summons didn’t specify in which capacity and why he was summonsed.

Now Aleh Volchak is also preparing a complaint to the prosecutor’s office. He wants to find out who has introduced him into a ‘black list’ the customs officers look through while checking citizens’ passports.
