Novaie Radyio Won’t Work for at Least a Month
According to RFE/RL
The attempt of strike at the radio station Novaie Radyio, owned by the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, ended with resign of the majority of its staff and work cessation. The FTUB officials who are responsible for the radio are looking for replacement of the old staff, whose members read on the radio their appeal to Aliaksandr Lukashenka whom they asked to defend them from the self-will of the trade union authorities. The reason for this radical step was the firing of the radio’s director general Viktar Hryshanau, who got into a hospital after it.
In order to let the tension out the FTUB decided to suspend the activity of the radio station for a month. The Ministry of Information stated it won’t interfere with this conflict and they didn’t consider a month’s silence at 98,4 frequency as a problem.
