Mahiliou: Authorities Ban Solidarity Day Action Appointed on 16 September
According to RFE/RL
Mahiliou authorities turned down the request of the local democratic activists to authorize a picket dedicated to the Solidarity Day which they intended to hold on 16 September. The leaders of Mahiliou regional branches of the United Civil Party, Belarusian Social-Democratic Hramada and the Party of Communists of Belarus planned to hold the action near the city’s Culture House.
Mahiliou City Executive Committee stated it couldn’t authorize the action because the applicants ostensibly didn’t present all the necessary documents. The local activist Iury Novikau believes the authorities are afraid to authorize an action even in a desolate place so that people have no chance to find about the political situation in the country.
