13th Day of Belarusian Literacy. No Representatives of Union of Belarusian Writers and Frantsysk Skaryna Belarusian Language Society Invited
On 3 September in the town of Pastavy (Vitsebsk region) the 13th Day of Belarusian Literacy started. The program of the event included the exposition Treasures of Belarusian Book Printing, presentation of books and publishing houses, exhibitions of photos and production of national craftsmen, artistic performances, competitions and lotteries and also awarding the Golden Folio statuette to the winners of the national competition Book-Art.
The Literacy Day was opened by the deputy prime-minister of Belarus Aliaksandr Kasinets who read Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s congratulations and also by speeches of the chair of Vitsebsk Regional Executive Committee Uladzimir Andreichanka, the Orthodox archbishop of Polatsk and Hlybokaie. It was attended by the top-level state officials, diplomats, scientists, artists and representatives of the new pro-governmental organization, Union of Writers of Belarus. At the same time, representatives of the old Union of Belarusian Writers and Frantsysk Skaryna Belarusian Language Society weren’t invited.
