Belarusian Solidarity Actions Held in Turkey For the First Time Ever
On the Day of Solidarity with Belarus in July one of the citizens of Belarus has held a personal protest in Turkey.
One of the activists of the young movement from Svetlahorsk (Homel region), who was on a holiday in a town of Side, lit a candle of solidarity on July 16. Side is an ancient city Side on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, in Antalya Province. There are lots of tourists in this city in summer, and streets are very busy.
I had a white-red-white ribbon on. I didnt have jeans clothes, as it was very hot there, and one should wear light clothes. When I was standing with a candle, it attracted peoples attention, I saw photographic flashes. I have pictures of that action. I n a few days I am going back to Belarus, and I will show them to my friends, the young activist said.
Young activists from Svetlahorsk have held solidarity rallies in the streets of their town many times. Policemen tried to disband protesters and take them to a police department. Now, in summer, many young people are travelling, some of them abroad. But they believe that on the 16th day of every month in any part of the planet the Belarusians should show solidarity with fighters for freedom and democracy in Belarus.
