Marathon of Solidarity With Belarus
On July 16 and 17 actions of solidarity with Belarus were held in the USA. On Sunday, July 16, members of the Belarusian Initiative in Minnesota protested against politically motivated arrests of democratic activists. Participants of the rally underline that particularly now when the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin has been sentenced for five and a half years, and Partnerstva activists are waiting for a closed trial, support of the international community is especially important for the Belarusian democratic movement.
On July 17 a traditional protest in Washington was held. About 20 persons gathered near the Belarusian embassy with flags and streamers. They handed out leaflets with information about political prisoners and repressions against activists. Like during previous pickets, nobody from the Embassy representatives came out to picketers. Meanwhile, Washington dwellers showed great interest and support. Belarusian and American students, activists of different public associations and initiatives, representatives of Ukrainian diaspora have taken part in the protest.
