Statement of the Political Council
Of the United Civil Party

On Political Prosecution of the UCPB leader Anatol Lyabedzka

On July 17, 2006 the chairman of the United Civil party Anatol Lyabedzka was imprisoned for 10 days again. The reason, using foul language in a public place, is as ridiculous as previous pretexts for arrest of our leader. Each his appearance at a meeting, picket, demonstration or meeting with people and in regions causes hysterics of law-enforcing agencies and their bosses from executive authorities.

People paid their salaries by taxpayers for defending us and keeping order, are first to infringe the law and Constitution with the help of weapons, truncheons, fists and ugly lies. Riot police and special services, who were disbanding each demonstration or peaceful picket brutally, are not serving Motherland and Law. They serve Lukashenka and his criminal clique for their thirty pieces of silver. To insult and humiliate the politician Anatol Lyabedzka is more important for them than to fight with criminals, embezzlers of State property and drug dealers. Belarusian skinhead regime does not care that Anatol Lyabedzka has family and loved ones, and that a human life is sacred.

It is dishonourable and detestable that generals and colonels use their authority to settle personal accounts with real patriots of our country. The moral fall of officers who had trampled underfoot the truth once again, is obvious.

In connection with political repressions against the chairman of the UCPB Anatol Lyabedzka the Political Council of the UCPB:

- demands to release Anatol Lyabedzka immediately and to stop persecuting him for legal, open political activities;
- condemns actions of the authorities that persecute A. Lyabedzka and representatives of civil society;
- demands to institute criminal proceedings against the leadership of the Interior Ministry and special units that carried out repressions against citizens of the country;
- addresses the Russian Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church in Belarus with an appeal to give moral evaluation of actions of the law-enforcing agencies, judges, who constantly violate the right for life and freedom given to each person by God.
