Xavier Solana: Kazulins sentence is politically motivated

EU Supreme Representative on foreign and security policy Xavier Solana expressed deep concern with the sentence (5,5 years of imprisonment) passed to ex-candidate for the Presidential post Aliaksandar Kazulin.

The sentence is obviously politically motivated. A.Kazulin was arrested at a peaceful demonstration when he was exercising his legal democratic rights, - the Supreme Representative said in the statement spread by his press secretary Christina Gallach on July 17 in Brussels.

The EU Supreme Representative urged the Belarusian powers to recall A.Kazulins sentence and to exonerate all political prisoners. As X.Solana emphasized, the EU is ready to develop the relations with Belarus. He added however that the further cooperation demanded exact steps of democratization and guaranteed human rights.
