ODIHR translated OSCE report on 2006 presidential election
Urdur Gunnarsdottir, ODIHR Spokesperson, said in his interview to Radio Liberty that the Belarusian translation would be ready in several days and posted on the organizations web-site.
The main idea of the report is that the Belarusian authorities failed to provide equal conditions for adequate competition of the presidential candidates, as well as to maintain civil and politic rights. Opposition activists were constantly harassed and detained.
- The treatment of candidates by State authorities exhibited a decisive advantage for the incumbent President, Mr Lukashenko, and raised doubts regarding the authorities willingness to tolerate political competition based on equal treatment before the law and by the authorities.
Apart from that, OSCE/ODIHR issued around 50 recommendations to the Belarusian authorities.
