Hunger-strike of Protest against Persecution of Young Front Members: Number of Participants Reaches 38

On 3 June the co-chairman of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich came to Salihorsk to support his friends who started the hunger-strike on 29 May. In Salihorsk the hunger-strike is kept by 8 persons: Maksim Siamenchyk, Siarhei Patskevich, Dzianis Karnou, Hleb Sandras, Pavel Batuieu, Uladzimir Lemesh, Illia and Ivan Shylas. Zmitser Dashkevich joined the hunger-strike immediately after his release from jail.

The majority of the hunger-strikers are members of the unregistered organization Young Front. They again and again demonstrate their courage. Recently they have refused to stop the hunger-strike on the request of adult opposition activists. They consider their radical position (that can bring on serious consequences) an adequate answer to the actions of the authorities that are aimed at cessation of the wave of youth protests.
