On March 31 road police of Vitebsk region detained a car with 25 thousand brochures titled “People’s Control”. The driver, journalist Vadzim Barshcheuski, and his son Aleh were taken to Vitebski district police department.
For several hours the policemen counted the brochures which contained the stories of the protesters who stayed in tents on Kastrychnitskaya Square.

The police charged Vadzim and Aleh Barshcheuskis with distribution of printed materials without printer’s imprint.

Later Vadzim Barshcheuski returned to take his car which had been examined by the police back. The police demanded that he should make additional statements: who was to receive the brochures, how they planned to distribute them, etc.

Mr. Barshcheuski said he would answer all the questions only in court and only if his lawyer recommended him to do so. Then the police charged him again, that time with insubordination to police officers, reports RFE/RL.
