Krychau: Office Appliances Confiscated from Volny Horad Newspaper to Prevent It’s Issue

At about 2 p.m. on 15 March about 20 representatives of the riot police, KGB and Krychau Borough Board of Internal Affairs with the chair of the police, lieutenant-colonel Aliaksandr Rabyka at the head burst into the private apartment of Krychau businessman Uladzimir Kudrautsau, founder and publisher of the unregistered newspaper Volny horad and confiscated all office appliances that were used for preparation of the newspaper.

The police explained their actions with the suspicion that these appliances had been stolen from the central hospital of Krychau. The chief editor of the newspaper Siarhei Niarouny said it was a manifestation of the desire of the authorities to paralyze the independent edition that is distributed in three districts of Belarus. According to him, as a result of this confiscation the issue of Volny horad can be really suspended for unknown period of time.
