HRC Viasna was informed that on 16 March the police detained the chair of Navapolatsk Electoral Headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich Vasil Khramtsou while he was driving his car. At first they accused him of violation of the traffic rules and then - of resistance to the police (violation of article 166 of the Code of Administrative Violations, is punished with up to 15 days of jail). Then Mr Khramtsou was taken to Navapolatski City Court for trial. There the police said Mr Khramtsou hadn’t stopped his car at a pedestrian crossing to let a pedestrian cross the road, that’s why they detained him. According to them during the detention he resisted to them. As a result, the judge sentenced him to 5 days of jail, ignoring the fact that Mr Khramtsou is ill with diabetes and has to inject insulin thrice a day.
