The Human Rights Center Viasna came to know that on 21 February after the police searched the apartment of the public activist Aliaxei Shalaika, he was detained and is kept in custody. The law allows apprehension without any charges brought for three days. This is how long Mr. Shalaika will stay in custody.
It is still not known why the activist was detained, however, considering today's searches all over the country, a conclusion may be made - this is done for intimidation purposes.
Details will be further specified.
