Prisoner of Conscience Mikhail Marynich Is Kept in Prison Hospital of Minsk Penal Colony

According to RFE/RL, Mikhail Marynich receives medical treatment. The colony administration informed Marynich’s relatives he felt alright. Last year he got to prison hospital twice – first time after the heart-attack and second – because of rapid sight deterioration. Marynich’s relatives insist on his treatment in a usual hospital, which would be possible in the case of his early release from jail, which the authorities don’t agree to. On the other hand, Marynich’s lawyers say there are no legal reasons why he can’t be conditionally released from jail.

We should remind that in 2004 the former minister and ambassador Mikhail Marynich was sentenced to 3,5 years of jail. After the amnesty this term was reduced to 2,5 years. This sentence is considered to be politically motivated persecution.
