The rights of the members of the initiative group of the united opposition candidate are violated
A human rights activist from Brest Uladzimir Vialichkin reported that on January 15, 2006 about 12 o’clock the police officers of the Maskouski Board of the Internal Affairs of Brest detained Kanstantin Turcheniak and Iauhen Bialasin who were collecting signatures near the trade center “Iubileiny” for Aliaksandr Milinkevich.
Senior lieutenant V.N. Tur who guided the detention, told that their sertificate has a seal that cannot be the seal of the Central Election Commission and took the collectors to the detention center of the Maskouski Board of Internal Affairs, where senior lieutenant A.I Tarasevich examined the documents of the collectors of signatures and released them.
Because of this, a number of members of the initiative group of Milinkevich in Brest filed an appeal to the Central Election Commission about the actions of the police officer. They say:
“…, that the police officers interfere into the legal activity of the initiative group of Milinkevich and make people be disappointed with the police and authorities.
The police officers express unreasonable claims such as:
-- they regard the collection of signatures as an unauthorized picket;
-- they express doubts about the authenticity of the seal on a certificate;
-- they do not know Belarusian and do not understand the contents of the documents (“The certificates” are in Russian and signed by Iarmoshina.);
-- they say that the certificates are not authentic.”
The members of the Brest initiative group for nominating Milinkevich to the position of the President of Belarus require in their claim to prevent such actions of the police.
