On 12 December there started the travel of Aliaksandr Milinkevich, the opposition’s candidate to the presidential position, across Brest region. The police and the secret services watched the delegation.

On 13 December they detained Milinkevich’s driver and the microbus used by the delegation, for almost two hours. They thoroughly examined the car and the belongings, also watched the videocassettes with the cartoons Milinkevich’s brought for an orphan house. Haven’t found anything suspicious, they returned the tapes. During the two days in Brest region the car of Milinkevich’s delegation was detained twice. The police explained their actions with operation against illegal immigrants.

Five minutes before the meeting at Svetatron factory in Brest the road police detained the car and the driver. Mr. Milinkevich even had to get into another car to come to the meeting in time.

In the evening the police disrupted the meeting of the democratic candidate with the local intellectuals, that was have taken place in a private flat. About 70 people gathered to it. In 20 minutes there came two policemen and said they were informed about an unauthorized assembly in the flat. They threatened to call the riot police. Mr. Milinkevich asked people to leave the flat. However, the police composed a report for holding of an unauthorized assembly, on the flat’s owner.
