Court Rejects Suit against Pressbol

On 10 November Minsk Tsentralny Borough Court rejected the suit of Sviatlana Ramanovich, accountant of the National State College of the Olympic Reserve, to Pressbol newspaper. The plaintiff demanded from the newspaper 14 510 000 rubles (7 000 USD). The reason for the suit was the article “Field-news”, published on 19 August. The name of the accountant wasn’t mentioned, only her age.
According to Uladzimir Bierazhkou, chief editor of Pressbol, all of the four defendant’s witnesses confirmed the information was true. The plaintiff had no witnesses. It was the second large-sum suit against the newspaper concerning protection of honor and dignity. Last winter the court obliged Pressbol and its chief editor to pay 40 million rubles to the minister of finances Mikalai Korbut, chair of the Belarusian association of gymnastics.
