Hrodna Regional Economic Court Leaves 12-Million Tax for Mikalai Autukhovich to Pay

On 11 November Hrodna Regional Economic Court left in force the decision of Vaukavysk Tax Inspection that obliged the businessman Mikalai Autukhovich to pay 12 million rubles of land rent. The tax inspection decided that he illegally occupied the land near his office and house. That’s why they calculated the land rent for 2004 ten times bigger than usual – 14 million rubles. The businessman has already paid 2 million rubles. Now the rest of the sum plus the fine for non-timely payment are being exacted from him. Meanwhile, Mikalai Autukhovich is in jail and has spent 28 days already on hunger-strike of protest.
Mikalai Autukhovich was arrested on 14 October and is kept in Hrodna jail on accusation in non-payment of exceptionally large sum of taxes, 679 million rubles (part 2 of Article #243 of the Criminal Code), for which he can be sentenced to 3-7 years of jail with possible confiscation of protest.
