The Narodnaia volia, the only independent daily in Belarus, may be suspended soon.

The newspaper's editorial office property was attached, the paper was seized, the bank account of the Narodnaia volia was blocked until the compensation of 100 million rubles is paid out to the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Siarhei Haidukievich in accordance with the ruling taken by Leninski Borough Court, reported Radio Liberty.
On 27 September the Narodnaia volia published in Belarusian and Russian an appeal by the founder and the senior editor of the newspaper Iosif Siaredzich with a call to all people of Belarus to help with the payment of the compensation worth 100 million rubles. This is the amount Leninski Borough Court of Minsk ruled should be paid to the deputy of the Chamber of Representatives Siarhei Haidukievich as material damages with respect to the publication in the Narodnaia volia of an article about the cooperation of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus with the regime of Sadam Hussein and the allocation of special privileged oil quotas.
