Poles in Belarus lost the independent weekly Gloz znad Niemna. Last Friday the old Union leadership that depends on the official authorities issued the paper of the Union of Poles in Belarus. The only author who signed all the texts was Tadeusz Kruczkowski, the former UPB chair. His articles show the Polish authorities and the new leadership of the UPB in the bad light.

The Poles decided to sharply react to the news from Belarus. Tomasz Lis of Foreign Ministry said that Poland suspended the financing of Glos znad Niemna.

"Our only reaction will be eliminating sources of financing because as is known Glos znad Niemna was issued only thanks to the finances provided by Wspolnota Polska and the foundation Pomoc Polakom na Wschodzie, said Tomasz Lis to Radio Polonia. --Possibly, the paper will be financed by the Belarusian authorities, if they want this periodical to continue. When the UPB leader and the weekly's editors elected in the March congress of UPB are recognized, then everything will sure be restored as earlier.
