Siarhiei Sktrabiets Hungers in Jail for More than a Month Already

Siarhiei Skrabiets, activist of Belarusian opposition, chair of Respublika deputy group in the Chamber of Representatives of the previous convocation, is still kept in Brest investigation ward. He is charged upon two articles of the Criminal Code – preparation to a crime and bribery. He has been keeping a hunger-strike of protest against the restraint for more than a month already. Nevertheless, the authorities decided not to choose the restraint -- on 14 June Brest City Procurator’s Office rejected the petition of Skrabiets’ defense lawyer Mikhail Khomich on this subject. Mikhail Khomich is going to complaint against this decision to court on 15 or 16 June.

All Skrabiets’ friends and relatives ask him to stop the hunger-strike, whereas Mikhail Khomich says Siarhiei Skrabiets stated he would hunger till end. The hunger-striker’s wife and mother are going to visit him on 16 June.
