On 7 June the Chain of Concerned People against the renaming of the capital’s streets and avenues took place in Frantsysk Skaryna Avenue in Minsk.

The chain participants gathered in the suburb, at the far end of Frantsysk Skaryna Avenue, near the subway station Uskhod. This time the action was also attended by people from Belarusian regions. In his interview to Radio Liberty one of them, Siarhiei Skulaviets, said:
-- I gladly join this action to express my indignation at what is happening in the country, at least to have the possibility to stand here with a poster and express my public position and all that I think.

At the end of the action several buses of riot squad police arrived. The policemen demanded from people to stop the action and disperse. Nobody was detained. We should remind that a number of political parties and public organizations prepare to hold a referendum in Minsk concerning the renaming of the streets. Besides, Belarusian People’s Front applied to the Constitutional Court with the inquiry concerning the legality of Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s order to rename the streets. The court refused to consider it.

According to leaders of political parties, actions of protest in the suburbs are very important and will continue.
