The Procurator’s Office of Belarus refused to stage a press-briefing on the course of the investigation into the murder of Veranika Charkasava
On 20 April the Belarusian Association of Journalists received from the Procurator’s Office of Belarus an official refusal to stage a press-briefing on the course of the investigation into the murder of Veranika Charkasava.
The head of the criminal case supervision department in the Procurator’s Office I.Zui, who signed the refusal, believes that “granting the appeal is deemed as impossible”.
“Now investigators are actively investigating the murder, trying to solve the crime and find those behind it. Disclosure of additional materials can have an adverse impact on the investigation”, says the refusal by the Procurator’s Office of Belarus.
I.Zui also points out that the press-center of the Republic Procurator’s Office together with the First National TV Company has already delivered detailed coverage of this case (shown on TV on 11 March 2005).
