The charges are by terms of Art. 339 part 1 of the Criminal Code – hooliganism. A.Shumchanka will continue to be in the remand center for as long as "investigation continues".
The Human Rights Center Viasna believes that the arrest and criminal charges brought against A.Shumchanka are wholly politically motivated.
We'd like to remind you that A.Shumchanka was arrested on 1 March for taking part in a protest action by businessmen, and sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest. On 11 March A.Shumchanka was transferred to the Detention Prison of Minsk because he was accused of beating the cellmate.
