Activist of Free Trade Union of Entrepreneurs Tatsiana Marchanka Is Tried

On 3 February Homel Savetski Borough Court started the trial on the suit of the regional employment center to Tatsiana Marchanka, the head of the head of Homel organization of Free Trade Union of Entrepreneurs, member of United Civil Party and formed candidate to the Parliament.

The regional center tries to exact from Marchanka 1 201 326 Belarusian rubles which she received in 1996-1999 when being unemployed. Having found out that Tatsiana Marchanka was a co-founder of Rodnik Ltd., the employment center decided that she worked there and received the money illegally.

At the trial the defendant explained that in the beginning of 1990-ies she was dismissed from radio factory and became redundant. When she filled the form for social aid, there was no line where one had to tell whether he/she founded any Ltd. or no. The defendant thinks the case against her as politically motivated.

The check-ups related to Tatsiana Marchanka began when she decided to run for the Parliament in autumn 2004. The check0-up of the documents at the employment center was conducted by Homel Regional KGB Board.

Judge Siarhey Ulasaw will continue the trial on 16 February.
