For 2004 Ministry of Justice Suspended 25 Media and Issued 160 Written Warnings

This week the minister of information Uladzimir Rusakevich has stated that his ministry would use suspension of editions more often because it proved to be the most effective means to fight with law violations. However, the lawyers think it is a doubtful method of influence on the media – in this case the editorial boards of newspapers are deprived of the possibility to defend themselves in court and prove their right. According to Belorusskiy Rynok newspaper last year the Ministry of Information issued 160 written warnings to 81 periodicals and suspended the issue of 25 media.
