RFE/RL reports, the district election commission cancelled registration of Ivan Antashkevich on the ground of statements of 5 citizens. They claim, the candidate’s proxies handed out campaign leaflets together with a copy of Narodnaya Vola newspaper with the candidate’s interview.
During the voting, 7 election commissioners voted in favor of canceling registration, and 5 voted against.
Ivan Antashkevich filed an appeal to the Central Election Commission, and was promised it would be considered at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The candidate says the accusations are false.
Earlier this week UCP members Alexander Dabravolski and Valantsina Palevikova were deprived of registration for spreading the same newspaper.
