National Council to Control Election Campaign in Mass Media
On August 17 the Central Election Commission adopted a resolution to create a special National Council to control the order of parliamentary election campaign in mass media, reports pravo.by
Seven people became members of the Council: first deputy Minister of Information, Lilia Ananich; deputy Chairman of the National TV and Radio Company Alexander Martynenka, director of the First National Channel of the Belarusian Radio Piotr Ramanchuk, first deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Journalists Ryhor Sakalowski, editor-in-chief of the Minskaya Parvda newspaper Mikalai Shloma, director of the public press-center of the House of Press Tatsiana Bialova, first deputy editor-in-chief of the Sovetskaya Byelorussia newspaper Mikhail Labedzik.
According to the CEC press secretary Mikalai Lazavik, the Council is to chack how mass media meet the Election Code. In particular, it will check if mass media provide equal conditions for all candidates. Recommendations the Council gives to mass media management will be obligatory for execution.
Election campaigning will start on September 16, after the end of candidates’ registration.
