The authorities try to enforce payment of the fine of 1 650 000 BYR (USD 770). Ales Karniyenka was fined for organizing a public voting on the third term for Lukashenka, which took place on November 7. Ales Karniyenka has no means to pay the fine. He says he wouldn’t pay even if he had the money.
On 15 June Ales Karniyenka, 32, activist of United Civic Party was summoned to Zavodzki borough court of Minsk. Officer of the court Siarhei Vetashkin reminded Karniyenka about the fine. Ales explained he was unemployed and had no money to pay such a high fine. The officer said he would soon come to levy distress.
