German Social Democrats Speak in Support of Belarusian MPs on Hunger Strike
Representatives of the social democratic faction of German Bundestag made a statement about the hunger strike of Belarusian MPs Valery Fralow, Siarhei Skrabets and Uladzimir Parfianovich. German social democrats call upon other politicians in Germany to express their support to the MPs and other activists on hunger strike. The authors of the statement urge the Belarusian government to consider their demands favorably.
“Deputies Parfianovich, Skrabets, and Fralow are advocating open discussion of election code amendments, and demand release of Mikhail Marynich. These demands deserve support, as the existing Election Code does not allow upcoming elections on October 17 be free and transparent. As for the actions of the Belarusian authorities against Mikhail Marynich, the Belarusian leadership should understand itself that it does not correspond to the norms of international law”.
Bundestag lawmakers urge other German politicians to support their colleagues in Belarus, who oppose the authoritarian regime and advocate democracy development in the country. German parliamentarians expect nonviolent ending of the hunger strike. Bundestag MPs also stress this should be done for the sake of Belarusian pro-democratic opposition.
