Iwye Police Composes Violation Reports on Mikola Markevich

According to RFE/RL, Iwye District Police Board composed two reports. One of them, against the “Den-press” association, will be directed to the regional State control for alleged mistakes in the delivery note for the delivery of the newspaper from Smalensk printing house to Hrodna.

The editor of the “Den” newspaper Mikola Markevich says that according to the Law on Press, the newspaper print-run can be arrested only on court decision. The second report was composed on Markevich for the fact that the unregistered strike committee of Belarusian businessmen was mentioned in the newspaper.

(Markevich): “They send inquiries to different institutions – Hrodna Leninski Borough Board of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Information – but didn’t find a single violation. I can state that they have the same answer of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Information that according to Belarusian legislation strike committees as well as parental committees are not subject to registration and therefore can’t be considered as distribution of information on behalf of unregistered organizations”.
