The leader of the nationwide strike committee of businessmen Valery Levanewski was detained on 1 May in Hrodna near the porch of his own house on the charge on charge of distribution of invitations to the 1 May meeting. He was stopped by an unknown man who showed him his police certificate and asked to come to a police point. There the police exacted from Valery Levanewski his passport and money. Then he was taken to the insulator of Hrodna Leninski Borough Board of Internal Affairs.
